Transitioning from Spring to Summer

Transitioning from Spring to Summer

The Solar Waxing: Navigating the Great Midpoint

As we cross the threshold of May, we find ourselves in a unique celestial position. We are halfway between the Vernal Equinox and the Summer Solstice. While many celebrate this as Beltane, it is, at its most fundamental level, a celebration of the "Solar Waxing"

The Lengthening Day and the Visible Moon

Since the Equinox in March, the Sun has been gaining "weight" in our daily lives. The days are stretching, and the arc of the light is reaching higher into the sky. This shift does more than just change the temperature, it alters our relationship with the Moon.

During the Waxing phases of late spring, you may notice the Moon hanging prominently in the bright afternoon sky. This is a moment of celestial overlap. In the winter, the Moon often feels like a solitary light in a dark void. But now, the Moon is a pale, persistent ghost in the presence of the Sun.

This represents the merging of our two primary energies:

The Sun: Our outward action, our public identity, and our conscious Doing.

The Moon: Our internal rhythm, our private subconscious, and our intuitive Being.

When the Gibbous Moon is visible in the daylight, it is a reminder that our internal work does not stop just because the world is busy, bright, and growing.

Tending the Midpoint: Solar vs. Lunar Momentum

This period functions much like the First Quarter phase of a monthly lunar cycle, but on a grand, solar scale. In the First Quarter, we encounter the first real obstacles to the intentions we set at the New Moon, it is a time for action in the face of challenge.

On this larger scale, the "Solar First Quarter" is our time to recognize where to invest our energy. We are in the midst of the year's greatest surge of growth. Between now and the peak of the Summer Solstice, the momentum is at its maximum.

This is not the time for aimless effort. Just as a gardener must decide which shoots to prune and which to support, we must look at the lengthening days and decide where our focus will yield the most light. The visibility of the Moon in the daylight acts as a compass - reminding us to invest our solar Doing into the things that nourish our lunar Being.

A Ritual of Scent: The Midpoint Simmer Pot

To honor this transition, we are focusing on the volatile oils of the season. A simmer pot is a beautiful way to practice Sensorial Storytelling within your own home. By gently heating botanicals in water, you are releasing their essence into your atmosphere, creating a bridge between the wild growth happening outside and the disciplined sanctuary of your home.

As the steam rises, visualize it as a reflection of the lengthening days - an expansion of your space, your breath, and your focus as we move toward the peak of the light.
